On the 14 and 16th September 2015, 16 members of the Hospitality Services Team signed up to attend the WorldHost Training Programme, held at Stranmillis University College.

WorldHost is a nationally recognised badge of excellence for customer service. The programme was developed for the Northern Ireland market by Tourism NI and the tourism and hospitality sector skills council ‘People 1st’. It offers delegates a comprehensive training toolkit that can be used where the quality of front-line customer service is key to business success.

During the course the Stranmillis delegates learned invaluable skills and techniques that form the fundamentals of service professionalism. It is an accredited course giving confidence to staff to deliver a consistent standard of service at all service points and at all varieties of events. All staff who attended the course successfully completed the programme and were awarded the WorldHost certificate. As over 50% staff in Hospitality Services have been trained, the Refectory Building will be able to display the world-recognised ‘WorldHost’ sign.

On Thursday 17th September Minister for Employment and Learning Dr Stephen Farry hosted in the Long Gallery at Stormont a presentation of Worldhost certificates to participants in the programme. Over 40 newly awarded participants from different organisations from Co Down and Co Antrim, attended the event. Unfortunately due to timing of the event, Stranmillis participants were unable to attend, so Joanne Gribbin and Christine Nesbitt collected the certificates on their behalf.
