YES hits the mark with The Chartered Institute of Marketing

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry today welcomed an innovative marketing programme to assist our next generation of marketers
~ Tuesday, 23 April 2013

The Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Ireland voluntary board of directors have developed an innovative pilot marketing programme via the Youth Employment Scheme (YES) that will offer 20 aspiring young marketers the chance to gain vital experience within the industry.

Dr Farry said: “These are excellent opportunities offered by local marketing companies to provide young people with the experience, skills and qualifications to help them move towards employment. During the work experience, they will be given the chance to try out a range of tasks in a real work situation. The emphasis is on providing them with an opportunity to sample the world of work and give the work-related experience to help secure a job in the future.”

The Youth Employment Scheme is designed to give young people between the ages of 18 and 24 help and support in looking for permanent work by offering work experience and skills development opportunities. CIM Ireland has gained the commitment of local companies who will offer a two to eight week work based marketing placement and/or a six to nine month skills development placement.

The Minister concluded: “I commend CIM Ireland for developing this programme and thank the employers for offering the placements. Participants will have the opportunity to gain professional marketing qualifications, along with experience in such diverse areas as digital marketing.”

As part of this pilot programme, funding is available from DEL through the Youth Employment Scheme to enable participants to obtain CIM recognised qualification including the Certificate in Marketing and the Diploma in Digital Marketing.

Christine Watson, CIM Ireland said: “These are excellent opportunities for young people to obtain valuable work experience including a real insight into the world of marketing and the genuine chance to carve out a exciting, worthwhile career with support from a marketing mentor. Never before has there been such an opportunity for young people to get involved in marketing and achieve relevant worthwhile qualifications.’

18-24 year olds who are currently unemployed or underemployed (working less than 16 hours per week)  are encouraged to attend a recruitment event at the University of Ulster’s Loughview Suite, Jordanstown, on 24 April 2013 from 8am to 10.00am. Participating employers will be attending this event and there will be an opportunity to match prospective candidates with available placements. Alternatively young people may contact their local JobCentre/Jobs and Benefits office about these opportunities or check www.jobcentreonline.com.

Young unemployed people are encouraged to participate in YES and avail of a wide range of work experience opportunities on offer at www.jobcentreonline.com. The scheme is entirely voluntary and will help develop the skills you need to get a job.
